The Sacred Lineage
The Eternal Golden Tree of the Avadhoota Siddha Tradition.
The ancient and divine Sri Sahasrara Yogishwara Swami Mahapeetam can trace its roots back to 596 AD, when the great Himalayan sage Avadhoota Athmarama Swami, an embodiment of a radiant divine soul, journeyed from the snow-covered peaks of the North to the southernmost point of Kanyakumari — the confluence of three oceans.
As he traversed the sacred land of Bharata, Athmarama Swami meditated at numerous holy sites, imbuing the soil of India with his tapas-shakti. Upon reaching Kerala, later known as God's Own Country, he rested beneath a sacred banyan tree. In deep meditation, he was graced with the divine darshan of Goddess Parvathi.
The Goddess revealed that a fragment of her own energy — her Divya Amsha — had incarnated nearby and instructed him to abandon his Avadhoota Danda and unite with her incarnation. Initially, the sage hesitated, committed solely to his vows of renunciation. However, that evening, as he bathed in a nearby pond, his feet brushed against a divine idol submerged in the waters. When he lifted it, he discovered it was a murti of Lord Ganapathi.
In a profound state of meditation, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha unitedly manifested before him, bestowing their blessings and guiding him to fulfill the divine mission of merging with the Goddess's earthly incarnation. He was tasked with consecrating (Prathishta) the energies of Shakti, Ganapati, and the Nagas at that hallowed location.
This event marked the inception of the Sri Sahasrara Yogishwara lineage — a vibrant stream of Avadhootas, Yogis, and Siddhas who perpetuate the timeless consciousness of Shiva and Shakti throughout the ages.
The Great Yogis and Avadhootas of the Lineage
From Athmarama Swami onward, numerous Mahatmas have blessed this lineage — divine masters who embodied both supreme wisdom (Jnana) and miraculous abilities (Siddhi). Among these revered figures are:
- Narasimha Murty Swami, a master of mantra and control over elements.
- Mantra Murty Swami, whose divine vibrations influenced the natural world.
- Yogishwara Swami, who achieved Nirvikalpa Samadhi and manifested in multiple locations simultaneously.
- Krishna Goswami, a bhakti-yogi who experienced Lord Krishna's cosmic dance within his own Sahasrara.
- Tirtha Brahmarakshas, who transformed from a protective spirit into an enlightened being through rigorous tapas.
Many other Yogis of this parampara journeyed unseen, engaging in tapas within mountains, forests, and temple caves. While they may have vanished from physical sight, their vibrations continue to guide future seekers.
In just the last seventy years, 45 realized Yogis, Avadhootas, and Mahapurushas have emerged from this tradition, perpetuating the sacred current of realization.
Even within the family lineage of the current His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Yogishwara Swami, divinity is an inherited trait. Both his paternal and maternal ancestors were Avadhootas, including the esteemed Krishnan Velayudhan Swami, a recognized Siddha Purusha whose presence emanated divine energy and transformation.
The Divine Masters: Mantra Murty Swami & Yogishwara Swami
Two of the most illustrious saints in this lineage are Mantra Murty Swami (born 1543) and Yogishwara Swami (1622).
Mantra Murty Swami was endowed with immense spiritual power; his aura was so profound that expectant mothers in his village struggled to carry their pregnancies to term due to the overwhelming warmth of his divine energy. This phenomenon was validated through Ashtamangala Prasnam (sacred astrological revelation), revealing that the unborn children could not withstand the vibration of his Tejas (radiance).
Upon discovering this, his parents, filled with sorrow, implored him to relinquish his physical form for the benefit of the people. The compassionate Swami requested 90 days to complete his tapas. After this period, when his family entered his meditation chamber, they found him seated in a lotus posture, radiant and smiling. With a tranquil glance at his parents, he entered Mahasamadhi, instantly dematerializing his body in divine fire, leaving only sacred ash behind.
In a similar vein, Yogishwara Swami exhibited remarkable siddhis of materialization and dematerialization, manifesting in multiple locations simultaneously, guiding devotees, and establishing temples that continue to serve as centers of divine energy and upliftment to this day.
Yogic Secrets and Sacred Practices of the Parampara
This lineage represents a fusion of Shaiva, Shakta, Vaishnava, and Siddha traditions, embodying the unity of all spiritual paths. Their yogic system, often known as Sahasrara Yoga, emphasizes the awakening of the crown center, which is the source of divine illumination. The esoteric disciplines practiced within this lineage include:
- Sahasrara Sadhana — awakening the thousand-petaled lotus through profound meditation and mantra vibrations.
- Shiva-Shakti Aradhana — harmonizing the divine masculine and feminine energies within oneself.
- Kundalini Tapas — a controlled awakening of the serpent power through breath, mantra, and disciplined practices.
- Trikona Dhyana — meditation on the inner triangle of Iccha (will), Jnana (wisdom), and Kriya (divine action).
- Agastya Siddha Vidya — connecting with the lineage of Rishi Agastya to channel ancient siddha wisdom for transformation.
- Gupta Mantra Sadhana — secret mantras imparted only through Diksha from realized masters.
- Naga Darshana & Shakti Prathishta — communion with divine serpents that symbolize Kundalini, and the consecration of living Shakti energies.
These sacred practices are passed down exclusively through Guru-to-disciple transmission (Guru-Parampara), ensuring that the sanctity and potency of this inner knowledge remain intact for millennia.
Miracles and Living Presence of the Lineage
From ancient times to today, miracles have been the natural essence of this lineage — not mere displays, but manifestations of divine harmony. Devotees have observed:
- Healing through a single drop of sanctified water from the Yogi's hand.
- Experiences of rebirth and restoration of life.
- Materialization of vibhuti and divine fragrances during meditation.
- The simultaneous appearance of Yogis in distant locations.
- Darshan of Golden Nagas protecting temple grounds.
- Blessings of protection and prosperity from the unseen grace of the lineage.
The Living Presence of the Gupta Parampara
These expressions affirm the ongoing presence of the Gupta Parampara, the Golden Tree of spiritual illumination, firmly rooted in the eternal consciousness of Shiva and Shakti.
The Living Light — His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Yogishwara Swami
Currently, the sacred energy flows through the divine essence of His Holiness Srimath Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Sri Sri Sri Yogishwara Swami, the living representation of this ancient siddha lineage.
Countless individuals across India and beyond feel his silent strength — facilitating healing, awakening, and profound inner transformation. His Holiness teaches that the true Sahasrara resides within each individual, and that realization emerges not from external rituals but from the awakening of one's inner divinity.
Through his compassion and intention, the Sri Sahasrara Yogishwara Mahapeetam continues to serve humanity, guide seekers, and safeguard the esoteric yogic wisdom of the Siddhas for future generations.
Significance of the Lineage
This lineage is not just a matter of history; it is a vibrant flow of divine energy that connects seekers directly to the cosmic consciousness, transcending both birth and time.
Experiencing darshan from a master of this lineage, or even uttering their name with reverence, is believed to ignite spiritual grace within one's soul. The Sri Sahasrara Yogishwara lineage is one of the most unique and potent Gupta Siddha Paramparas — the Golden Tree, with roots in the Himalayas and blossoms that illuminate the hearts of true seekers.
